SNOW DAY | TIRE SUR LA NEIGE

What do you do when your stuck at home in a couple feet of snow and you don't have any power. The only really Canadian and logical thing to do, you make tire sur la neige.

For those of you who have no idea what tire sure la neige is. It is a very Quebec type of dessert, if you were to essentially to translate the french translation it is "maple taffy on snow". The recipe is very straight forward and calls for very few supplies and ingredients.

Maple Taffy on Snow; Tire sur la neige

Ingredients and Supplies:

- (large) sauce pan

- candy thermometer (or you can easily eyeball it)

- 12 popsicle sticks (or spoons in our case)

- 2 cups pure maple syrup

- A tiny bit of butter

- CLEAN, untouched snow. (You can also use crushed ice, for those of you who don't live in a snow globe all year round.)

So what your going to want to do is heat up your maple syrup until it reaches 232.F or until it starts to bubble like in the picture below. Careful your mixture is going to be very hot. Now to stop the mixture from bubbling too much and over flowing gently drop a little cube of butter into the maple syrup.

Now after this your going to want to work fairly fast before the maple syrup hardens in the pot. Taking a metal paddle your going to pour strips of the maple syrup liquid onto your compacted snow or ice, so make sure you have the snow or ice prepared beforehand.

Then wait a couple seconds before you take your popsicle sticks or spoon for us and gentle roll it up. The taffy itself tastes just like maple syrup, of course, with a deliciously chewy texture that melts in your mouth.

It's also delightfully fleeting; eat it all while it's cold, or the water will dissolve it back into plain maple syrup.

For the cleaning up process just put some hot water into that pot you used to make the wonderful taffy and bring it to a boil, that will just make cleaning up afterwards a whole lot easier and save you from having to ruin one of your kitchen supplies. Hopefully this recipe can help brighten your day when your stuck at home or if you just want a super fun easy way to make taffy.

Until next time,
